Blockbusters Bingo
Blockbusters, as defined in the Merriam Webster (MW) dictionary, is "one that is notably expensive, effective, successful, large or extravagant" and when you take a look around the world of online bingo many can have the title of Blockbusters Bingo. There are many brands that match the definition set out by MW, if not by name like Bingo Hollywood, then in offers for the players like those found at Foxy Bingo.
Adverts for many of the blockbuster bingo brands can be seen on the small screen with Foxy Bingo having the most extravagant of media marketing campaigns. Their commercials, from the He's Back campaign of last year to this years "The One That You Want" are blockbusters bingo commercials in their own right. With impressive theme tunes (Lipps Inc, Funky Town and You're the One that I Want from the blockbuster film Grease) the Foxy Bingo brand is a name that many people, even non-bingo players, recognise thanks to great marketing by this blockbuster bingo brand.
Blockbusters bingo can also be attributed to films about the game; Bingo Confidential is a film whose storyline is based all around an inheritance of $1 million. The sole heir to this massive amount of cash will be chosen through a game of bingo, the winner being the person who will inherit the $1 million. Currently the production team of Bingo Confidential are in talks with Channel 4 to get this shown in the UK.
Bingo is also the title of the 2010 Steve Miller Band album and although not yet quite a blockbusters bingo hit, it's just another notch on the bingo bedpost. There have been a number of bingo songs released and although not chart toppers, they are recognised by players as often they are played in bingo halls. A couple of our favourite blockbuster bingo songs are Dave Carey's "Bingo, I'm in Love" from 1961 and Ashley Wheelhouse's "Bingo Song" from 2004. Look them up on You Tube!
Blockbusters was also the name of a popular game show in the 1980s that was fronted by Bob Holness. Using letters on a grid players had to complete a row from left to right by answering questions based on the letter chosen. It was often found funny when contestants asked the host for a "P please Bob" or women who said "I want U please Bob". This game show, like others before it, has now become Blockbusters Bingo at Mecca Bingo.
So from films to music, gameshows to the game online, Blockbusters bingo is here to stay!
